Emily is the executive director for Nevada Blind Children's Foundation (NBCF). A long-time advocate for Southern Nevada youth, Emily has more than 13 years experience leading youth-serving nonprofit organizations - most recently as the Chief Operating Officer for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada.
Emily has received numerous awards for her work including Vegas Inc's, Women to Watch award, and multiple Pinnacle Award's from the Public Relations Society of America.
Passionate about education, Emily is constantly in search of opportunities to improve her skill set. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Business Management and several professional certificates in nonprofit management and public relations. In addition to her nonprofit work, Emily is an instructor for the continuing education department at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Philanthropy and volunteerism are two important words in the Smith household. Emily's husband Glenn and children Ashley and Micah support a number of Southern Nevada charities, and can often be found volunteering their time at NBCF. When she's not working, Emily enjoys spending time with her family and their animals. In fact, even the Smith pets have gotten into the act of giving back. Emily and her Newfoundland Buddy are a certified Therapy Dog team, and in addition to participating in NBCF's BookTime Buddies program, Emily and Buddy also volunteer their time to visit senior centers and children's hospitals to spread some joy and maybe even a few laughs!
Veronica Atkins is the Development Director for Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation. She joined the nonprofit world through the AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program in Houston, Texas with the College For all Texans Foundation. For the past 8 years, Veronica has served southern Nevada in various capacities by holding positions with Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, Opportunity Village, and Easterseals Nevada. Veronica holds a Bachelor of Arts in Victim Services from Sam Houston State University and is currently working towards her certificate for Nonprofit Management at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Raised in a military family, service to others has been instilled in Veronica. She currently serves as a chapter advisor to Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Tau Omega at UNLV. Veronica is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, where she serves as the 2017 Board Secretary. She supports Miracle League of Las Vegas as a Board Member. In what’s left of her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and staying active.
Leslie oversees all of the marketing, public relations, and special events for Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation. She has more than 10 years of experience in the public relations industry, previously holding positions with Kirvin Doak Communications, Ketchum Public Relations, and Krome Communications. Prior to joining the staff of Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation, Leslie served as secretary of the Board of Directors for two years.
A native of Pittsburgh, Leslie holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and received a professional certificate in nonprofit management through UNLV. She and her husband Kelley welcomed son Ryder in 2015.
Active in the community, Leslie volunteers her time with Wagging Tails Rescue, Dress for Success of Southern Nevada, Central Christian Church, and the Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter of Las Vegas.
