In 1994, the musician received a Helen Keller Personal Achievement Award from the American Foundation for the Blind for his determination “not to let his disability limit him.” #BlackHistoryMonth

Today we honor Stevie Wonder. Born as Stevland Hardaway Judkins on May 13, 1950 in Michigan, he lost his sight as a newborn when he came into the world six weeks early with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), an eye disorder caused by abnormal blood vessels throughout the retina. Receiving too much oxygen in the incubator likely worsened the condition for the tiny baby, leaving him blind. #BlackHistoryMonth

February is Black History Month! Dr. Mae Jemison, the first black woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. We love this quote from her:

“Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations. If you adopt their attitudes, then the possibility won't exist because you'll have already shut it out...You can hear other people's wisdom, but you've got to re-evaluate the world for yourself.”
