From Classroom to Capitol: NBCF Students Learn to Advocate
At NBCF, we believe that hands-on experiences are some of the most powerful tools for learning. Recently, our students had the unique opportunity to participate in Capitol Caravan, an NBCF program designed to immerse them in the heart of Nevada’s state government. This exciting initiative gave students an up-close look at how laws are made, how the state is managed, and who the people are behind the policies that shape our communities.
During their time at the Capitol, students observed both the Senate and Assembly in action, witnessing floor sessions that brought the legislative process to life.

They had the privilege of hearing floor statements from Senator Buck and Assemblymember Nguyen, gaining insight into how representatives advocate for their communities. The students also had the incredible chance to pair up with Assemblymembers Carter, Nguyen, Miller, Gonzalez, and D’Silva, creating a personalized experience that allowed them to ask questions and learn directly from those who serve in public office.
Beyond the legislative chambers, students explored the Nevada Treasurer’s Office, where they learned about the state’s financial management from Erik Jimenez, Chief Deputy Treasurer. These discussions offered a deeper understanding of how budgets are planned and funds are allocated to support the needs of Nevadans. The trip also included a meeting with Assemblymember Melissa Hardy, who shared her experiences and passion for public service.
This visit wasn’t just about learning how government works—it was about empowering our students to see themselves as active participants in their communities. By engaging with state leaders and seeing the inner workings of government up close, they gained knowledge, confidence, and inspiration to become advocates for themselves and others.
We are incredibly grateful to the Nevada Legislature, the Treasurer’s Office, and all the representatives who took the time to connect with our students. Your support and engagement have made a lasting impact, showing our students that their voices matter and that they, too, can play a role in shaping the future.
