Paratransit – Understanding a Valuable Resource
Paratransit can assist in transporting your child, age five and older, to and from programming at Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation, for a nominal cost of $3 each way.
The first step is to call for an evaluation appointment – 702-676-1815 or TDD 702-676-1834, The Paratransit office is open Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. They do have Spanish speaking agents available to assist. An appointment will be set, usually within two weeks. If needed, the RTC can coordinate transportation to and from the center for the evaluation appointment.
At the evaluation, the child will be interviewed, and a Functional Assessment may be done. The assessment is conducted at the Mobility Training Center located at 5165 W. Sunset Rd. in the southern part of the valley. Here is a link for more information: https://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/paratransit/mobility-training-center/. This is an indoor training and evaluation facility that is designed to simulate real life transportation scenarios. The mobility testing will include negotiating curbs, stairs, crossing streets and boarding buses.
You will be notified of the determination within 21 days of the evaluation. Once approved, you can schedule trips using your RTC Paratransit ID number by calling (702) 228-4800 or by logging onto https://ridecheck.rtcsnv.com/handyweb/jnot/start.oci. The online system is available 24 hours a day, rides need to schedule before 5pm for the next day. You can cancel a ride up to four hours prior to your pick-up time. It is important to note, there is 30 minute window to pick you up, and you must board the bus within five minutes of its arrival.
You can pay $3 cash for each segment (the drivers do not have change) or you can visit https://www.rtcsnv.com/transit/fare-information/order-passes-online/#paratransit to order the booklets of 22 or 46 rides linked to your Paratransit number. You can use your Paratransit pass for standard RTC fixed routes, at any time, but you must have your Paratransit card with you.

If you are planning on using Paratransit for your minor child, you can also file a Do Not Leave Unattended document. This means the child is required to have a direct hand-off to an adult.
