After-School Programs

NBCF offers a variety of after-school programs for blind and visually impaired students, grades K thru 12.  Please complete the registration for programs to reserve your spot today!

Programs run 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday thru Friday at the NBCF Learning Center, a hot meal is served at 4:30 pm for all students attending programs.  If you need help arranging transportation to and from the NBCF Learning Center, please call our Family Advocate, Debbi at (702) 941-5106 to discuss available resources.

All of our after-school programs are offered at no cost, however, there is a one-time annual fee for students who wish to join the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts club.

All students must register and complete all required paperwork prior to attending program sessions.

Please note, programs will not be held on the following dates: January 20, February 17, March 9 and April 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13.  This is subject to change during the semester.

Igniting creativity and imagination through the arts.

Monday night programs will offer a chance for NBCF students to get in touch with their creative side! An exploration of music led by the professionals of Ready Set Gig will provide a fun and educational experience that will teach students about collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Students do not need any previous experience to join, all instruments are provided.

Life Skills - Money Money

Navigating valuable life skills together!

Explore basic money management skills in this fun, ten-week course, Tuesday nights from January 7th to March 10th.

This program is open to all NBCF students in grades K-12, there is no cost to attend but all participants must be registered online. Life Skills takes place on Tuesday night at the NBCF Learning Center from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Life Skills - Foodie Fun!

Navigating valuable life skills together!

FOODIE FUN - Explore basic food and dining etiquette in this fun eight-week course that will take place on Tuesday nights from March 17th to May 12th at the NBCF Learning Center. This program was designed and will be led by Tricia Chang a doctoral student with Touro University along with NBCF staff.

This program is open to all NBCF students in grades K-12, there is no cost to attend but all participants must be registered online. Life Skills takes place on Tuesday night at the NBCF Learning Center from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The Foodie Fun session will take place March 17th thru May 12th.

Robotics

Wednesdays

The NBCF Robotics season continues into the spring. NBCF sponsors three First Lego League teams to cover all grade levels. The program includes enrollment with First Lego League, competition fees (including transportation), and cost of robotics kits and technology necessary to compete.

Robotics takes place on Wednesday nights at NBCF from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with additional days scheduled for Robotics meets as part of the First Nevada league. NBCF staff will communicate scheduling for special events directly with program participants and family members during the season.

This program is open to all NBCF students grades K-12, there is no cost to attend this program.

Girl Scouts

1st & 3rd Thursdays

Open to NBCF Students, grades K-12
No Program Cost (one-time fee to join Girl Scouts of America)

Cookies, campfires and lifelong friendships are all part of the journey, but changing the world? That’s the real destination! Join NBCF Girl Scout Troop 35 and participate in a variety of activities.

Troop 35 is a multi-level troop and siblings of NBCF students in the troop are also welcome to join.

Girl Scouts meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at the NBCF Learning Center from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. While there is no cost to attend the program, there is a one-time $35 fee to join Girl Scouts of America.

Spring 2020 Dates: Jan 16, Feb, 6, Feb 20, March 5, March 19, April 2, April 16 and May 7

4-H Club

2nd & 4th Thursdays of the Month

Open to NBCF Students, grades K-12 and siblings
No Program Cost 

NBCF is an active 4-H Charter Club. 4-H is a U.S. based network of youth organizations whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development".

Focusing on STEM, Agriculture, Healthy Living, and Civic Engagement, 4‑H empowers youth with the skills to lead for a lifetime.

Join us on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for our Spring Semester. This program is open to NBCF students grades K-12 and their siblings. (4-H Meets: Jan 9, Jan 23, Feb 13, Feb 27, March 12, March 26, April 23 and May 14)

Adaptive Recreation & Sports / Dance

Fridays
5pm - 7pm
Open to NBCF Students, grades K-12
No Cost

Adaptive recreation and sports support students is a fun way to help them develop mobility and flexibility, and it encourages active engagement in exercise and leisure activities. 

With an emphasis on movement and coordination. We play fun games such as human foosball, obstacle courses, mini-golf, and bowling.

We will also offer Dance class on select Friday nights: Jan. 10, Jan. 24, Feb 14, Feb 28, March 13, April 24 and May 8.  Students will be able to choose to participate in Dance or Adaptive Recreation on these nights.

Note: Fun Fridays are special events that occur once a month and will need to be registered for separately.
