Counselor In Training Program
Nevada Blind Children's Foundation's Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is a volunteer experience designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare blind and visually impaired teens for their first job as a camp counselor at NBCF's Discovery Day Camp, and/or to take on other leadership opportunities in their community.
NBCF's CIT program is designed to enhance interpersonal and communication skills while fostering independence and self-awareness. Community service is also an important part of the CIT program; we believe service to others, whether individually or in a community, is an essential character value at day camp and at home. Successful participants will come away from this program with valuable leadership skills that will serve them well at home, in school, and in their community.
The CIT program includes: internship in all aspects of a counselor's job at day camp, participation in service projects, training sessions on such topics as basic child development, behavior management, entry level vocation skills, financial literacy, communication and leadership, and community service.
CIT applicants must be in 10th grade or older. Applicants must complete the CIT application before being considered for the program. Entry into the program is competitive and is based upon the completed application and an interview with NBCF staff.
